MAKING A DIFFERENCE

Welcoming, Loving, and Serving
like JESUS

AT ST. PAUL, we believe all people are beloved, and valued, children of God. We believe that we are called to be God's hands and feet in the world. We do this by making a difference in our own community.

SOME OF OUR 'MAKING A DIFFERENCE' MINISTRIES:
We support many local non-profit charities and organizations, such as:

ANGEL TREE
Angel Tree is a seasonal Christmas ministry. The Angel Tree, complete with its children’s wish list, is located in the church narthex. The Angel Tree provides Christmas gifts for children from our local Stiles, Darby Woods, Prairie Lincoln and Prairie Norton schools. Each “Angel” on the tree contains an age, size and a toy wish.

FAITH MISSION
Members of St. Paul have a long history of supporting Faith Mission, a 24-hour emergency shelter that serves up to 220 men and 46 women at three locations: (325 E. Long St., 151 N. 6th St. and 599 E. 8th Ave.) Faith Mission is the only organization in Franklin County able to serve three meals a day – every day of the year. We donate, prepare and serve a meal at the mission four times a year.

RED BARN PANTRIES
We have two red barn pantries near the glass side doors at our courtyard. One red barn is stocked with food for those who have food needs. Another red barn is stocked with books for people to borrow or take. We replenish these red barns often and it’s a way to show love and support for any neighbors, or any homeless people.

TANGIBLE NEEDS ROOM
We gather donated items and distribute these to anyone who has needs – clothing, furniture, cookware, bedding, etc.
VAN BUREN SHELTER
We gather bread from Panera which we take to the Van Buren Shelter on a weekly basis. We also give Van Buren donations of dairy products, clothing, hygiene needs, etc.

PEANUT BUTTER & JELLY FOR HOPE
On the fourth Sunday of each month, we stay after church and make peanut butter and jelly sandwiches for The HOPE Resource Center which feeds addicted and homeless people in the Hilltop area. We typically make a week’s worth of sandwiches (about 450 or so) and for The HOPE Center. We also donate clothing and hygiene items as we receive any of these.

LWR QUILTS (Women's Quilting Group)
Our Women's Quilting Group support Lutheran World Relief (LWR) by making quilts each year that are sent throughout the world to places in need (areas that are war-torn, impoverished, and stricken by disaster). In 2024 we sent $200 toward shipping costs and sent 82 quilts and 10 sewing kits to the LWR distribution site.
St. Paul supports this ministry with monetary donations, cardboard boxes, and leftover quilting material. Donations can be placed in the quilting room off the downstairs kitchen.
Join us! No sewing knowledge required. Join us on the 1st and 3rd Thursdays of the month at 9 a.m. in the fellowship hall.
